With the objective of holistic growth and development of various facets of personality of children, MSB Educational Institute, Pune once again initiated a whole new range of activities scheduled on the working Saturdays of this academic year 2021-22.

The activities are designed to support classroom learning, enhance skill development as well as expose the students to new ventures and professions.

1.Everyday Science Experiments

Hands-on experiences help students to learn better and retain information for a longer time. In connection with the academic content, additional experiments are conducted to explain key concepts. Students work along with the teacher and develop their competencies in handling material and apply the concepts simultaneously.

Class V- Adulteration of Food.

Experiments were conducted on regular food items available in everyone’s kitchen to understand the adulteration process. Students learnt to conduct simple tests on these food items and verify their purification.

Class VI – Properties of Matter

Students conducted experiments simultaneously with the instructor using simple things available at home to prove the properties of matter.

Class VII – Capillary action of water and creating a running water rainbow.

Simple demonstrations and experiments assisted the students to comprehend complex concepts like ‘The adhesive force is stronger than the cohesive force, causing the water to travel upwards against gravity and the particles travel through a mobile medium from a stationary medium and get separated’.

2.Home Science

The development of life skills is important for all individuals. Making students independent to handle their personal jobs is crucial. A basic of stitching buttons and hooks on different attires was introduced to the young students.

 Videos, presentations and live demonstration assist the students to learn and develop the skills with ease.

Class V and VI - Button Stitching

The students learnt the technique to stitch buttons and were simultaneously encouraged to make an ear saver using available fabrics at home. A business perspective was given to the activity by guiding the students to calculate the cost involved and setting a selling price for the ear saver.

Class VII and VIII-  Hook Stitching

Stitching a hook along with its holder is not a piece of cake. It requires a technique to be followed. The students patiently observed the teacher’s demonstration and worked along with her to practice the same.

3. Elocution

The ability to communicate information accurately, clearly, and as intended is a vital skill to be developed in young students. A life skill that will enable students to excel in all walks of life.

A structured course has been designed to assist students to speak fluently, adopt the correct pronunciation and enrich their vocabulary.

Activities are planned with the objective to sharpen the speaking and reading skills by providing additional resources besides their regular language syllabus.

Students of classes V to VII were engaged in Tongue Twister activities as per their age level. Students were given opportunities to read the tongue twisters to sharpen their speaking skills and fluency. It was an engaging and fun-filled experience for all learners.

4. Computers

It is imperative for students to possess a sound knowledge of computers and related skills to meet the challenges of the advancements of technology. To keep the students abreast with different tools available and use them in designing school projects is focused upon. Interdisciplinary and collaborative learning using the latest technology will be achieved through this programme. Students will learn more means to represent themselves digitally and become good digital citizens.

Class V-  Internet Safety, PowerPoint Basics, Creating a Flipbook using PPT

Class VI- Internet Safety, Introduction to Computer Science and Scratch and creating a user id and password for CS

Class VII- Internet Safety,  Introduction to Book Creator and creating an account with the Book Creator website

Class VIII- Internet Safety, Introduction to Flip Grid application and joining the classroom using codes.

Class IX and  X – Internet Safety, Introduction to Penpal for collaborative projects

5. Work Education and Vocational Guidance

A structured programme has been designed for the High School students to provide knowledge and skills and give the students an entry into the world of work. Opportunities will be provided to students to give a deeper insight into different types of work as well as enable them to participate in social and economic activities inside and outside the classroom.  The activities planned in this programme are grouped in three categories: self-help activities, Community activities and Pre-vocational guidance.

The programme was initiated with the activity on Energy Audit under the category of self-help. The students were given information about the appliances they use at home. Students learnt to comprehend the technical terms as well as the details of its manufacturing process. They have been guided to make a few notes and recordings regarding the consumption of energy at home. The next session will be followed by understanding the audit and finding ways to conserve energy.
